Meet my friend/co-writer Shawn Christian. Born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia, Shawn was living in Florida and commuting back and forth to Nashville when I first met him. We met at the offices of Ole Publishing on “the row” in Nashville in the fall of 2005. We had both met other co-writers there for sessions and, oddly enough, we all ended up in one session together. It was the first and only time I’ve been a part of a four-way writing session but I remember it was a good one.
Fast forward 12 months and we crossed paths again much the same way. We both gathered together at the SOCAN house in the fall of 2006 to once again write with two different writers. We both recognized one another but we couldn’t quite place how. After a few minutes of chatting we realized, “Hey, you’re the one I did a four-way with!” (of the songwriting kind of course). We exchanged numbers and booked a session together within a week. Ever since, Shawn and I have gotten together on a regular basis to pen songs, tell stories and share the journey of a songwriter making our own way through the sea of dreams in Nashville, TN.
Shawn is one talented songwriter, a great friend and also the editor of a few books I’ve been writing (more on that later). Take time to check out his music. I guarantee it will be time well spent.
Currently working as a staff writer for the great folks at Songscape Music, Shawn says, “I’ve made some great friends, written with some amazing songwriters, and still can’t bring myself to call this a job”.
